Here's a video from todays kennel training session! Kennel training helps make the job of transporting Wildlife extremely easer. It makes it safe and less stressful for the animals and the keepers!! Transportation comes into play when animals need medical check ups/treatment, moving to a new facility, and most importantly for south Florida keepers moving the animals prior to a tropical storm! Instead of chasing the animal around with a net or using tranquilizers you simply train the animal to know that the kennel or transport box means they're going to get a tasty treat! That's called a positive reinforcement! Just like training a dog to sit, stay, or roll over you would give the dog a treat right after doing the command. As you can see I've got two of the three lemurs to go in on command and the one straggler on my shoulder isn't quite sure what to make of it, but he'll catch on soon once he realizes he's missing out on some tasty treats! #Ringtailedlemurs
