We stayed in the charming town of Manteo on Roanoke Island which is located in a somewhat central location of this area. From there we could discover the beaches, the swamps or Jockey's Ridge State Park with it's amazing Sahara-like sand dunes. This drive takes us out on the banks to Rodanthe where you can find Serendipity house from the Richard Gere movie 'Nights in Rodanthe'.
